Product Description –
The applications for Cellulose Acetate Butyrate (CAB) are almost unlimited. CAB material has high impact resistance, proven ultra-violet weatherability, great chemical resistance, along with excellent forming characteristics. These material characteristics make CAB the ideal plastic for forming parts and products that are exposed to a demanding environment.

Outdoor formulations now being produced may be expected to remain useful for at least 5 years outdoors in any part of the continental United States and in other areas of the world with comparable climates. During the critical phases of fabrication, transportation, warehousing, and installation of outdoor applications, butyrate provides a resistance to breakage far superior to that of many plastics marketed for outdoor use. Even though its toughness decreases with prolonged outdoor exposure, tests have shown that after several years of outdoor use, the best outdoor formulations of Tenite™ butyrate still retain higher impact strength than un-weathered specimens of many competitive materials.

Butyrate, like polycarbonate, is a thermoplastic or polymer that turns to liquid when heated and hardens to a very glassy state when cooled. Butyrate shares many characteristics with polycarbonate.  It is highly impact resistant, possess excellent clarity, and features high light transmission rates.

Tenite™ cellulose acetate butyrate has been tested in contact with several materials, and the results are presented in our FAQ’s section. 

Additional attributes of Butyrate are its machinability and formability. Most drilling, sawing, and routing can be performed with standard wood working equipment. Heat forming of the products in this group is a bonus.

Product Description
Eastman Spectar Stratus copolyester was formulated specifically for the lighting market. Spectar Stratus brings your projects to light with excellent diffusion and high light transmission and superb process ability. It can be laser cut, routed, welded, drilled, die-punched, or joined by screws, rivets, or bolts. It can also be cut on conventional table, band, or radial-arm saws with blades commonly used for plastic. Surface scratches or scuff marks can be removed using a common heat gun. Lighting applications made with Spectar Stratus are made tough—durable enough to survive heavy-use and harsh environments, and is resistant to a variety of chemicals and cleaners. Because of this outstanding toughness, designers can insist on thinner designs without compromising performance.

Product Description Under regulations administered by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), various grades of Eastman cellulosic products may lawfully be used in food contact applications. These products are manufactured, stored, handled, and transported under conditions adhering to 21 CFR 174.5 on general provisions applicable to indirect food additives (i.e., current good manufacturing practices for food contact substances).


Tenite™ Cellulose Acetate Butyrate 264-10 has a plasticizer level of 10%. It meets FDA requirements for certain food-contact applications when supplied in specific FDA color numbers. It is also noted for the same excellent balance of properties - toughness, hardness, strength, surface gloss, clarity, and a warm feel.

Product Description
Extruded Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PETG) is a high impact, FDA approved thermoplastic co-polyester that provides toughness, chemical resistance and fabricates well. Due to its low forming temperature, PETG is readily heat bent and can also be easily bonded using solvents. PETG can also be treated with a UVA inhibitor for inside or outside use, still remaining FDA compliant. Busada PETG tubing has been used for conveying coffee beans, flour, grains, other foods, paper cups and containers pneumatically as well as by chain conveyance.


PETG, like polycarbonate, is a thermoplastic or polymer that turns to liquid when heated and hardens to a very glassy state when cooled. PETG shares many characteristics with polycarbonate.  They are highly impact resistant, possess excellent clarity, and feature high light transmission rates (90% for PETG and 88% for Polycarbonate).


The most compelling reason to consider PETG over polycarbonate tubes, is typically related to its lower cost. The outstanding degree of strength of PETG material makes it possible to consider the use of lower gauge thickness for some applications. The consideration of this feature makes it possible to use less material therefore reducing costs to produce a product. In many circumstances, this is a determiner to selecting PETG as the alternative to polycarbonate. Additional attributes of PETG are its machinability and formability. Most drilling, sawing, and routing can be performed with standard wood working equipment. Heat forming of the products in this group is a bonus.

Eastman Provista™ Copolymer is a second-generation material that complements Eastman Provista™ by offering similar features, while providing greater toughness. Eastman Provista™ Copolymer is ideal in applications that place greater physical demands on the profile. With an indoor/outdoor UV package added, yellowing caused by light can be prevented. Eastman Provista™ Copolymer is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 51 for Food Equipment Materials.

Product Description
Eastman Tritan™ Copolyester TX 1800 is an amorphous copolyester specifically developed for use in blow molding and profile extrusion applications. Eastman Tritan™ Copolyester TX1800 may be used in repeated use food contact articles under United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations.


Tritan is a new-generation clear plastic with excellent toughness and impact resistance. It is virtually unbreakable. Unlike some plastics, Tritan is made without bisphenol-A (BPA) and it retains clarity after repeated dishwasher washing cycles, without hazing or cracking. That makes bottles made with BPA-free Tritan more than reusable; it makes them a great sustainable alternative to a market looking to reduce landfill use.
